World’s No. 1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the ICC’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022. The 31-year-old batter had an exceptional form last year, scoring 1164 runs in 31 matches at an average of 46.56 with two centuries.

Expressing his gratitude, Suryakumar posted a video on Instagram and thanked all his fans and dedicated the award to everyone who was a part of his journey. “It’s an unbelievable feeling. This award is for everyone whose been part of my journey – my coaches, family friends, teammates and all you guys, are my driving force,” he said.

Suryakumar also mentioned his favorite moment from the year, which was his first international hundred. Notably, the Indian batter smashed 117 runs off 55 balls with 14 fours and six sixes. Although it was not enough for India as they were restricted 198/9 in response to England’s 215/7 and lost the match by 17 runs. However, India won the series 2-1 as they dominated the hosts in the first two games. 

The right-hander made another century in the year, when he scored 111 off 51 balls against New Zealand, as India defeated the hosts by 65 runs and clinched the series by 1-0.

Suryakumar concluded by mentioning the biggest learning from the last year. “Work hard and be honest with yourself,” he said.

He referred 2022 as the year which has given him a lot and said he will be looking forward to the coming year and all opportunities ahead. Notably, Suryakumar has earned a place in the Indian Test squad for the four-match Test series against Australia starting from February 9 in Nagpur.
